Happy Valentines Day! In honor of love, here is a dinner my family loves. It's a family favorite and I'm posting it for my college son who asked for the recipe
today. I hope your Valentines dinner will be as yummy as his.
Ingredients:
3 T Butter
1/2 onion, finely chopped
3 T flour
3 C Milk, can use half and half for creamier consistency or heavy cream for part of the milk
1 teas Salt, to taste
Pepper to taste
1 bag frozen peas
1 Cup Ham, thick sliced and diced
1 bag frozen tortellini, cooked separately as per package directions
1/2 Cup Shredded Parmesan cheese
Directions:
Start boiling the water and cooking the tortellini while you proceed with making the sauce.
The sauce is a basic Béchamel sauce. Start by melting 3 Tablespoons butter in a large frying/saute pan. Saute onion in the butter and then add 3 Tablespoons flour and stir, combining together and let the flour cook for a minute or two.
Add in the milk and gently whisk until smooth.
Add Salt and Pepper (and a dash of marjoram if you have it.)
Continue to cook on Medium until sauce thickens.
Turn heat to low and add the ham and peas.
Strain the tortellini and add to the sauce. Mix in most of the parmesan cheese and reserve some for sprinkling on top.
Serve with a yummy sourdough bread. Enjoy!
